What does your rising sign reveal about you?
When it comes to astrology, we tend to put most focus on the date we were born. We tend to believe that this is the defining element of our horoscope. The passionate Leo rules over the month of August, December belongs to Sagittarius, and so on. We are able to easily identify ourselves by the month and day of our zodiac sign.
However, there’s more to astrology than just horoscope dates. There are other factors that go into determining our horoscopes. One of these is our rising sign.
You may be wondering, what is my rising sign? Also known as an Ascendant, your rising sign has to do with what time you were born rather than what date you were born on. The rising sign you belong under can only be determined once you know the exact time of birth. According to astrological beliefs, if the Ascendant is closer to the beginning of the sign you will be impacted more by its effects, but if you were born at night or at the end of the sign’s Ascendancy (right before a new sign takes its place), the effects will be weaker.

Okay — this might seem confusing, especially for us non-astrologists. Basically, all you need to know is that your rising sign has just as much of an important impact on who you are as a person as your zodiac sign does. When meeting new peeps, your Ascendant will be the one helping you out with making the first impression. The way you express and conduct yourself when meeting new people is all due to your rising sign.
This information can actually be really helpful in figuring out what people think about you when they meet you for the first time (because let’s be real, we’ve all wondered that before). So how does the time you were born contribute to what kind of personality traits you have? And how does it dictate how you meet new people?
This is exactly what people think about you when they meet you for the very first time, based on your rising sign.
ARIES (March 21 – April 19)
Aries are as straightforward as they come. People with an Aries rising sign are known for acting before thinking — which may not always make for the best first impression. Don’t worry. It all comes with the territory. Although you may not say all the right things when you first meet someone, your fearless take-charge attitude and charming smile will keep them intrigued enough to come back for more.
TAURUS (April 20 – May 20)
Slow and steady is Taurus’ mantra, so a Taurus rising sign may come off as aloof and reserved in a first meeting. This can scare some people away, but this mysterious trait is also what attracts people to you. Once you’ve had enough time to warm up to people, you’re as friendly and open as they come.
GEMINI (May 21 – June 20)
Geminis are natural social butterflies. A Gemini knows how to talk the talk and is excellent at mingling and networking. Gemini rising signs come off as very chatty, but also extremely compelling. You have no problem capturing people’s attention right off the bat.
CANCER (June 21 – July 22)
Cancers are gentle and sensitive. Meeting new people is scary to them, so first impressions can make them seem unapproachable. However, if your rising sign is Cancer, it means you’re a great listener. You’re good at taking in — and remembering — everything people say and once you feel comfortable, start coming out of your shell.
LEO (July 23 – August 22)
If there’s one sign that requires no introduction, it’s the mighty Leo. With a Leo rising sign, you’re the star of the show as soon as you walk into a room. You always stand out with a perfectly primped appearance and a natural magnetism. You make first impressions feel more like a red carpet where you’re the star attraction. However, your presence can be so big that you have the tendency to intimidate new people. People will either flock to you or shy away from your larger-than-life personality.
VIRGO (August 23 – September 22)
With a Virgo rising sign, we hate to say it but… you make people feel a little uncomfortable at first. Virgo is a tense sign and cares — almost obsessively — about what new people think of them. You choose every single word carefully and will analyze all of your reactions with intensity. No, this isn’t a staring contest. It’s just Virgo being Virgo.
LIBRA (September 23 – October 22)
Libras have undeniable charm and are sociable people by nature. With a Libra rising sign, you’ll find that you make friends easily. So basically, you’re winning when it comes to meeting people and making new friends.
SCORPIO (October 23 – November 21)
Scorpio people define the love-hate relationship. A Scorpio is quiet, yet commanding. With a Scorpio rising sign, you fascinate people while also being somewhat intimidating. When people meet you for the first time, it’ll usually go one of two ways. Your desire for controlling every situation will either drive people away or will keep them instantly intrigued to stay and learn more.
SAGITTARIUS (November 22 – December 21)
Sagittarius rising signs have this “meeting new people” thing on lock. As a natural-born adventurer, you’re never short on exciting stories to tell about all of the exotic and far-away places you’ve traveled. It won’t take long for people to become enraptured by your enthusiasm and worldly appeal.
CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 19)
The Capricorn takes everything very serious and likes to keep things formal. From their appearance to their smooth way of talking, first impressions of a Capricorn rising sign will be much like meeting a dignitary. As soon as they step into a conversation, they’ll be the VIP of it. You’ll want to be on your best behavior when meeting someone with a Capricorn rising sign for the very first time because they’ll take this meeting very seriously in order to size you up for the future. But don’t be mistaken. Once you make friends, it’ll be very hard to find another friend as reliable as they are in all of the zodiac.
AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 18)
The Aquarius rising sign gets along with everybody. They’re super approachable and friendly, which makes it simple for new people to feel instantly at ease with them. You’ll love listening and talking to someone with an Aquarius rising sign. As intelligent humanitarians, they will never shy away from discussing important topics and they’ll be curious to get your opinion as well. Your conversation will always be anything but boring.
PISCES (February 19 – March 20)
The easygoing Pisces is more of a listener than a talker in unfamiliar situations. If you have a Pisces rising sign, you are quiet and gentle and won’t be the one to spill your life story upon meeting new people for the first time. You prefer taking everything in before chatting people up right away and your ability to go with the flow makes it easy for you to adapt and peacefully enjoy the moment.
